• there's only one thing worse than an awful book, and that is an awful book with ONE tantalisingly compelling element

  • an awful book is nothing. You can put it down and never think of it again. An awful book with ONE idea that perfectly captures your imagination can chip your soul out through your eyes with every sloppy syntax error and gaping plot hole while you scream, unable to look away

  • This post is your reminder that you are not obligated to blog about current events.

Things are bad. Really bad. Do not let people guilt trip you into tormenting yourself even further over the fact that things are bad. Doomscrolling is not activism.

If you're just on tumblr to blorbopost or reblog pretty pictures, you are not harming people by inaction.

You are not a bad person for not dedicating every aspect of your life and leisure space to whatever disgusting mask-off attack on human life and dignity some government has decided to enact.

Take action where you can, but don't confuse doomscrolling and digital self harm for action.

If you need to lose yourself in blorboposting, go for it.

If you need to log off for the day, whether it's to take irl action or to protect what little sanity any of us have left over the past 7 years, then by all means, do.

Morale is important. Hope is important. Small joys keep us from burning out completely in times like this. Do not let any "if you don't reblog this I'm judging you" guilt trip convince you otherwise.

  • I have a question for y'all, both old and new tumblr users

what kind of posts/communities made you come to tumblr in the first place?

aesthetics (put in the tags which ones!)

fandom (put in the tags which ones!)

    art/photography

    shitposting/general chaos

    fashion

subculture (put in tags which one!)

    politics/activism

other (pls specify in the tags!)

(forgive me if this has been done before, I'm just curious!)

  • I don’t think humans should be living in studio apartments or little one bedroom apartments you can barely turn around in. It’s like how the minimum tank size requirement for a betta fish is technically 2.5 gallons but you’re a monster if you put them in anything less than 5 gallons. I think people deserve at least one extra room in their house.

  • I get wanting to avoid urban sprawl, wanting to use space efficiently or whatever but goddamn. You should have space for potted plants, for a pullout couch for when your mother comes to visit, space to pursue your hobbies. I don’t think that’s a greedy thing to want.

  • I see some of the apartments listed in NYC and it’s like. that should be illegal. I’ve seen snakes with enclosures bigger than that

  • Another thing I find delicious in Barry is the consistent moral through line that characters have throughout the series, which is "If I feel sufficiently bad enough about something, that should be enough to win me absolution." I think that's SO yummy, dude.

Like every character does selfish and awful stuff that makes things harder for the people around them and every time they're just like, "But wait, I apologized to you. And I meant it, too. What do you mean that isn't enough?" And it's so good because like, it's sincere??

Like again, the thing that makes their behavior so enticing is that they're like genuinely surprised that the world's most profound "My Bad" is somehow not enough for them to win back the very people they've screwed over. It's a REALLY fun watch

  • Over the Garden Wall is almost ten years old and that both feels too old and unbelievably young.

I remember first watching this in the backroom of a museum on my ipod touch in late August in 2015 and it still feels like it’s been a pillar of Americana for the past thousand years.

  • Over the Garden Wall is timeless and ancient and boiled out of the aether of American folklore and happened to be caught in animated form like a photograph of a lightning bolt, and it’s also the most 2010s-ass thing I've ever watched.

  • Very cool life update: I am hopefully getting a tattoo of my favorite cave painting ever by someone who is equally obsessed with lost species of humans, I made bread for a friend who biked to get it from me, I have begun packing my belongings, and I think for a moment it is okay.
